Acton, MA 01720

Toll-free: 800-681-5909

E-mail: info@abisee.com

Web site: http://www.abisee.com/html/products_eyepalSOLO.htm

ABISee is a leading developer of the most advanced hi-tech products for low vision, blind and deaf-blind people. ABISee was founded in 2005 in the basement

of Leon Reznik's home in Sudbury, MA. These past 4 years have been impressive. Today ABISee is a multi-million dollar company selling products all over

the world – including USA and South America, Europe, Australia, India, and Japan.

In 2006 we introduced our first auto-reader – Zoom-Ex. It took Zoom-Ex 20-60 seconds to scan and read a page of text. Everybody was impressed. The ability

to read magnified text without an X-Y table was very attractive despite the fact that the quality of text on the screen was not perfect.

The next year Zoom-Twix caught the attention of visually impaired students. It gave them the opportunity not only to read textbooks but also to save the

text. Students could open the saved book and go to any page they desired with a single click. The second camera developed was a flexible CCTV camera to

view the blackboard and take written tests under desired magnifications. It still took 20-60 seconds to scan and read a page of text. Yes, it was the fastest

auto-reader, but visually impaired people wanted more - they asked for a real-time reader.

Last year we introduced Eye-Pal – a device specially designed for blind users. The time to start reading had been drastically reduced – it took Eye-Pal

just a few seconds to start reading. We introduced Eye-Pal at the 2008 ATIA. Many participants could not believe that it was possible to start reading

in a few seconds. Eye-Pal could read books and newspapers, junk mail and even text on a bottle of shampoo. The device was integrated with Braille displays

and had full voice support.

This year we made another big step in improving the quality of Zoom-Ex and Zoom-Twix. Today both devices are as fast and accurate as Eye-Pal. In addition

we smade two more important changes on how to view magnified text displayed on the screen:

list of 2 items

• Text may be shown as true font – this means that the quality of the highly magnified text is better than with any CCTV.

• Depending on their visual impairment and preferences the user may select how the text will be presented on the screen – as multiple or single line, as

auto scrolling line, or one word at a time, accompanied by speech or not, etc.

Read this to Me

"Read This To Me" is a free reading service for

the blind, powered by volunteers and Internet

collaboration.

http://www.readthistome.org/

"Read This To Me" allows blind and low-vision people

to have printed documents read to them over the

phone.  All the blind person needs is a phone line and

a fax machine (no computer is required.)

Here's how it works:

    1. The blind person (whom we'll call the "client") faxes

the document to be read to the "ReadThisToMe" toll-free

fax number: 1-877-333-8848. The first page of the fax

needs to be a cover page that includes the client's first

name and callback (voice) phone number. The document

itself can be just about anything: a handwritten letter, a

bill, a can of food, a multi-page magazine article -- just

about anything that can be faxed.

    2. One of ReadThisToMe's volunteer readers will call

the client back and read the document.

    3. That's it!

Typeability, A Talking Typing Instruction Program

http://www.accessible-devices.com/Typeability.html

Typeability, A Talking Typing Instruction Program

Reports from subscribers that have used this program indicate it works quite well. The program is designed to work with JAWS. We have no input from any

Window Eyes users. There is a free trial available.

TypeAbility 2.1.3

The Typing Program for the Blind!

TypeAbility is a program that teaches typing in 68 user-friendly lessons. By the end of the lessons, the student will have mastered all the letters, numbers,

punctuation, as well as basic navigating in text documents. In addition, the student will learn special characters that are used in computer applications,

such as the @ symbol that is required in e-mail addresses.

TypeAbility 2.1.3 is compatible with JAWS 6, through 9 . It is also compatible with the screen magnification program MAGic. So the partially sighted can

not only listen to, but also see their typing lessons. Note that even though the latest version of MAGic, MAGic 10, includes JAWS, TypeAbility still requires

a separate version of JAWS to be running while MAGic is running. Conveniently, you can use either a full version of JAWS, or the free JAWS demo.

The Alberta Committee of Citizens with Disabilities came into existence in 1973 when a group of people with disabilities decided they wanted to speak in

a unified voice.  Originally called the Alberta Committee of Action Groups for the Disabled, the organization has gone through three name changes: The

Alberta Committee of Consumer Groups of Disabled Persons (1982), The Alberta Committee of Disabled Citizens (1986), and The Alberta Committee of Citizens

with Disabilities. The society is best known as  ACCD.

For over 30 years, ACCD has been Alberta's only provincial, cross-disability organization of and for people living with physical, mental, sensory, learning,

or developmental disabilities. We remain a grassroots, consumer-directed organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities.

ACCD has been a part of many positive changes in Alberta. We have helped bring about a variety of services and programs designed to assist people with disabilities

to participate fully in the community and be equal partners in society.

CCD's brings together both provincial and territorial cross disability organizations and national advocacy organizations, all controlled by people with

disabilities.

CCD believes in:

Citizenship: People with disabilities have the same rights and responsibilities as Canadians without disabilities. Socially mmade barriers which prevent

our participation and discriminate against us must be eliminated.

Consumer control: People with disabilities must be involved in all stages of the development of disability services and policies and in all decision-making

that affects our lives.

Equality: The Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees equal benefit and protection under the law and prohibits discrimination based upon physical or mental

disability. All legislation must conform to the demands of the Charter.

Universal Design: The built environment should be designed to be usable by people with various disabilities.

Protecting Human Rights: Campaigning for a UN Convention on the human rights of people with disabilities.

Through the ongoing work of its volunteers, CCD contributes to the development of an inclusive society by:

Self-Representation: Speaking out to: the courts, such as in the Latimer case, to the media, the Sub-Committee on Disability, the Advisory Committee on

Accessible Transportation.

Sharing Expertise: Working to create new policy, such as a National Disability-Related Supports Plan.

Knowledge Development: Researching issues of concem to persons with disabilities, such as home supports, accessible transportation regulations, and income

support.

Extending Disability Rights: Doing Charter litigation to bring about disability-positive public policies in education, employment, health care and transportation.

Battling Barriers: Working to prevent the creation of new barriers; for example, launching a Canadian Transportation Agency case against VIA rail when they

purchased inaccessible train cars.

Law Reform: Participating in legislative reviews: Human Rights Act, the Transportation Act, and the Employment Equity Act.

Networking: Collaborating with major sectors of society to promote disability rights; for example, participating in the Voluntary Sector Initiative, a joint

government and community project, examining technology, research, volunteerism, and policy development.

Partnership Development: Joining forces with other groups to build strong initiatives, such as policy development forums on key issues of concern to persons

with disabilities.

is a non-profit organization that promotes braille as the primary literacy tool for people who are blind.

Currently, braille users must learn different versions of braille to indicate words, math, computer notation or chemistry. Unified English Braille (UEB)

may facilitate access to various types of information with a code that is consistent across subject areas.

UEB has been adopted in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. The United Kingdom, Canada, the United States and Nigeria, have endorsed UEB for international

use, but have not officially adopted the new code.

The goals of the CBA’s research project are:

List of 3 items

• To research the usability of the technical aspects of Unified English Braille for advanced math and computing;

• To train workshop leaders in all provinces of Canada to provide an introduction to Unified English Braille to parents, teachers, and braille-using adults;

and

• To develop lesson materials for transcribers and consumers to learn Unified English Braille.

The Canadian Council of the Blind is a national self-help consumer organization "of" persons blind, deaf-blind and visually impaired.

Also known by its acronym 'CCB', the Canadian Council of the Blind is a Federally Chartered (registered non-profit charitable organization) founded in 1944

in London, Ontario.

Over the years the CCB has grown and evolved to become recognized as Canada's "voice of blind Canadians".

The Canadian Council of the Blind head office is located in Ottawa, Ontario. Starting out with but a handful of individuals there are now some 85 plus affiliated

Clubs across Canada.

For purposes of definition and understanding, the distinction between the 'CCB' and the 'CNIB' should be noted.

Simply put, the CCB membership, and all those the Canadian Council of the Blind speaks on behalf of, are "the blind speaking for themselves.".

Who better to speak to the needs, issues and concerns of persons who are blind and visually impaired than the blind themselves!

The CNIB is the 'service agency' that exists to provide a variety of specific services to the needs of the blind and visually impaired population.

VICTOR S. HEMPHILL, SR.

2221 South Real Road #120

Bakersfield, California 93309-5234

(626) 797-0765

e-mail victorhemphill@charter.net

He has been a Library of Congress certified transcriber in literary braille for almost 40 years, having been certified on September 30, 1965. He has worked

continuously as a transcriber since certification. He is also a "lettered" proofreader under the program that granted letters to sighted transcribers who

had taken and passed the standard proofreading course. He has been doing Nemeth Code for more than 20 years, but he is NOT certified in Nemeth Code.

He uses the latest version of Duxbury for his transcribing. He has OmniPage Pro Version 12.1 for scanning. He also has full graphics capabilities, and uses

the Index Basic D embosser which has interpoint capability. He can bind with 19-hole plastic spines using translucent heavy plastic covers with the volume

information embossed on the cover, or he can bind in 3-hole standard binders. He ships by FREE MATTER FOR THE BLIND, by priority USPS or by UPS ground,

2nd day air or overnight. He has access to certified proofreaders for both literary and Nemeth Code if the client desires. He follows the format rules

as outlined by B.A.N.A. He is a life member of the N.B.A. and the V.A.V.F. and maintains current membership in C.T.E.V.H.

For the past 15 years he has specialized in Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian, and in technical works requiring partial or full Nemeth Code. All work

is interpoint embossed on 11 x 11-1/2" paper unless otherwise requested.

He accepts only one assignment at a time and work strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. He completes a work before billing. All work is filed with

the Louis catalog at A.P.H.

As a general rule of thumb, his prices are:

Straight English language text, using Textbook format -- $2.00 per braille page.

Portuguese, Spanish, Italian or French language text -- $3.00 per braille page.

Technical work requiring substantial use of Nemeth Code, or work totally in Nemeth Code -- $3.00 per braille page.

Graphics: $10.00 per graphic.

If you have any work that you have not been able to find someone to do, please contact him. Upon request, he will be happy to provide the names of clients,

agencies or students for whom he has worked.

He teaches the Library of Congress Literary Braille transcribing course on line using the Duxbury Perky-Duck 6-key entry program, and he also provides training

in the use of the Duxbury Braille Translation Program, always using the latest version. The price for either of these courses is $250.00 and training is

done over the telephone. Furthere details regarding either of these courses is available upon request.
