Bereavement & Memorials

This space exists to honor lives touched by Alström syndrome and to support individuals and families navigating grief, loss, and remembrance. You are not alone.

Support & Resources

Grief connected to rare disease can be complex, isolating, and deeply personal. Whether your loss is recent, anticipated, or long past, support is available—at your pace, in the way that feels right for you.

We offer:

  • One-on-one emotional support from our family support team

  • Connection to other individuals and families who understand life with Alström syndrome

  • A safe, judgment-free space to talk, listen, or simply be heard

  • Guidance toward grief and bereavement resources familiar with rare disease

  • Opportunities for remembrance and honoring loved ones, if and when you are ready

If you are unsure what kind of support you need, that’s okay. Reaching out is enough. We are here to help you find connection, understanding, and care—one step at a time.

Understanding Grief in Rare Disease

Grief may begin long before loss (anticipatory grief)

Grief can resurface at milestones, diagnoses, or transitions

Rare disease grief is often misunderstood by others

There is no “right” way or timeline to grieve

“Grief is like the ocean—some days the waves are gentle, and other days they crash without warning. Both are part of learning how to stay afloat.”
